The accessibility features of today are the breakthroughs of tomorrow

The future of technology depends on accessibility. Many significant technological advancements in the computer age - touch screens, voice recognition, predictive text - were invented to support disabled people, and today disabled people arguably benefit the most from AI.

Accessibility is central to the world’s most forward-thinking tech companies. Why? Because accessible thinking transforms products to suit everyone’s needs. Everyone will be disabled at some point in their lives. In Aotearoa, how can we use accessibility practices to create technology that’s equitable, innovative and resilient?

Who is this talk for?

All people working in tech, from IC to management.

During a time when it feels like new tech is what’s driving development and priorities, we will recentre the discussion back to why we’re all here - helping real people.

  • How technology, including AI, benefits disabled people.

  • How accessibility features benefit everyone.

  • How to leverage accessibility to build technology that’s both user-centric and innovative.
