You don’t need permission to lead: A grassroots community blueprint

Communities don’t happen overnight — they grow at tables where people share experiences, a mutual vision, and take action with or without a formal title.

As co-founder of BA Career Meetup, I’ll share how a small side project became a platform for shaping NZ’s BA community — one person, one event at a time. Expect practical lessons, honest reflections, and a blueprint for inspiration to build communities that reflect diverse aspirations for growth, leading to real-world impact in Aotearoa.

Who is this talk for?

Tech community builders at any stage who are keen to build and grow a community — from students, new grads to team leads, community builders, and leaders.

What will attendees take away?

  • A real-world example for building inclusive tech communities from the ground up.

  • Insights into how grassroots action can be done at speed and scale.

  • Practical tips on community building.

  • Motivation to contribute to culture-building in their own spaces.
